PondIf you love to see eternal change in nature, watch a pond in a limestone area. With increasing and decreasing water levels, the cycle of life will change. The singing frogs come and go so do the migratory birds and many beautiful flowers, called "weeds." The turtles, deer, geese, and all other residents who need and like water, are the very soul of the pond. The book includes Canada Geese, Chinese Geese, Great Blue Heron, Great Egret, Redhead Duck, Spotted Turtle, Killdeer, Swamp Milkweed, Mistflower, New York Ironweed, and Daisy Fleabanes.
We keep the pond open mainly for our resident geese. The open water also attracts a large number of otherwise rarely seen visitors, such as Snow Geese, Wood Ducks, Mergansers and many more. These occasional visitors add color and excitement to the winter landscape. |
